MARKET: Pixar's Renderman (abbreviated PRMAN) is the most widely used rendering solution for feature films, responsible for rendering most of the 3D scenes in productions made by Pixar, Industrial Light and Magic, and other top companies.
KEY FEATURES: The new version 11 adds support for raytracing and global illumination, which previously had to be faked or computed by other renderers. Renderman is widely used in film because it really shines in rendering high-geometry scenes, including motion blur and detailed displacement maps, at high resolutions, very quickly. Unlike many other renderers, Renderman does not tesselate all of your smooth NURBS or subdivision surfaces into polygons prior to rendering, but instead smoothly renders each region. PRMAN shaders are programmed in a scripting language that is designed to be powerful and flexible, but also the easy to write.
